Jargon PR – What’s Happening in MediaCityUK?

Jargon PR expanded into the North of England in July 2021 when the agency acquired Souter PR. Over the past year, the business has continued to grow its Northern team of PR professionals, and now has 6 permanent members of staff who are based in Jargon PR’s Manchester headquarters located in the heart of MediaCityUK.

This blog introduces the newest members of our fast-growing Manchester team, giving you an insight into what it’s really like to be a member of Jargon PR’s Northern branch.

Meet the new team:
James Sharp, Junior Account Executive

James joined Jargon PR in April 2022 as a part-time Junior Account Executive. He is working alongside his studies, as he completes his masters degree in Public Relations at the University of Salford. Speaking on his new role, James explains that the variety of opportunities is one of the best things about working at Jargon PR:

“So far, I’m really enjoying life at Jargon and it’s really nice to see the Manchester team expand” says James, who was one of the first recruits in the North. “I’m really grateful for the opportunity to gain this practical experience alongside my academic commitment.

I really love the opportunity to work in MediaCityUK. On top of this, being able to travel to see clients across the country is great too. The agency’s clients are all in really innovative and exciting fields, which makes no two days the same.”

Julita Pawilcz, Junior Account Executive

Julita joined Jargon PR alongside James in April 2022 shortly after completing her degree in Public Relations and Marketing from Manchester Metropolitan University. Julita was Jargon PR’s first full-time hire by the agency’s Northern branch. Talking on the first few months of her time at the agency, Julita says:

“Since I started working for Jargon nearly five months ago my life at the agency has become quite busy, learning a lot and practising my skills while working with multiple clients on different projects,” she explains.

“My favourite part is working with such a variety of accounts. Some campaigns demand gaining very technical knowledge which is great for someone who loves learning new things. I also like very much working with different team members, everyone is so nice and supportive and every account feels so different.”

Saskia Cullen, Junior Account Executive

Saskia joined Jargon PR as a part-time employee alongside completing her studies. Having become a full-time member of the team in early July, Saskia attributes the team-centred culture of the business to the reason why she is loving life at Jargon PR.

“I have been working at Jargon for nearly 3 months now and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The environment is perfect to work in as every team member is super friendly and helpful. I’m very happy that I work for Jargon, as I could not ask for a better workplace.“

Gareth Lloyd, Junior Account Manager

Gareth joined Jargon PR as a Junior Account Manager in May following an already well established career in journalism and copywriting. Gareth talks about how he has been finding his experience at the agency since joining:

“After just a few weeks at Jargon, I already feel like a valued part of the team. Several members of staff actually reached out to me before my first day to introduce themselves – which was the perfect way to get started. It set the tone for what has been an enormously positive and uplifting experience ever since.

“Life at Jargon is fast-paced and multifaceted – every day seems to present a fresh, exciting challenge and an opportunity to learn something new.”

Ben Todd, Junior Account Executive

As our newest Northern team member, Ben Todd joined Jargon PR in July following graduating from the University of Huddersfield with a degree in Creative Media and Production. Speaking on his recent arrival, Ben Todd said:

“Despite only recently being appointed as Junior Account Executive I already feel like a core member of the team. Since I have been here at the company, my welcome has been nothing but amazing. The team here is full of fantastic, kind and caring individuals which quickly settled me in and they provide a helping hand whenever needed.”

Combining North and South

Jargon PR prides itself on having a social and closely knit team. The agency wanted to ensure this feeling was continued for those joining at a new location. To prioritise this, Jargon PR does not split the team across Southern and Northern accounts, but instead integrates everyone across all accounts based on their specific skills and areas of interest. This ensures everyone can work together, keeping that social bond. Speaking on this integration, James commented:

“The team down South has been really good at making the two teams feel like one, despite the physical distance. Being invited down to the Hampshire office has been really nice and I think it’s definitely made me feel like part of a larger team. Overall, I think just being invited down to socials has helped in making the company feel like one big team. “

Saskia echoes James’ comments, explaining that the level of support she has received in her time with the company has been a huge help.

“I work with around 10 different team members across 7 different accounts here at Jargon and each one of them is beyond amazing,” comments Saskia. “During my first week, I had meetings with a few of them to brief me on the accounts I will be working on with them and made sure that if I needed anything to not be afraid to reach out. They offer help to me every step of the way and constantly make sure that I am okay to take on the tasks that I do. They always make me feel comfortable and I really enjoy working with them all.”

So why the move up North?

Jargon PR pursued the acquisition of Souter PR due to the agency’s impressive relationships with regional press, as well as its portfolio of brilliant clients across the region. Sue Souter, founder of acquired agency Souter PR and now Associate Director at Jargon PR commented on rapid regional growth over the past year:

“It’s been a huge 12 months for the Jargon brand in Manchester with great new people on board at all levels, an expanding office space in MediaCity and high profile work for Manchester Tech Week and others really reinforcing our PR skills and reputation in the tech B2B sector. We have been warmly welcomed into Manchester’s business and digital communities via tie ups with pro-manchester and Manchester Digital and are looking forward to another exciting year ahead.”

Discussing the allure of Manchester, Gareth explains just how action-packed the growing tech hub can be. “I came to Manchester for university over a decade ago and the city got right under my skin from the moment I unpacked my bags in student halls. This place has a habit of doing that: there’s a buzz which has turned millions of people into self-proclaimed ‘adopted Mancunians’. The region feeds and thrives on creativity, and one of its many artistic hubs – MediaCityUK – is on Jargon’s doorstep, so we’re right in amongst the bustle.”

Julita vouches for the busyness of the city, which opens a number of doors for all businesses working in the region. She states: The energy makes Manchester so great. The city has a great vibe with a great mix of different cultures and industries. There is always something happening, from tech and science events to food and music festivals, there’s never a dull moment.”

Jargon PR continues to be extremely proud of its Northern team, who work excellently to grow the agency’s presence throughout the region. We look forward to continued growth of our team in the coming years.
