Alex Smith – Life at Jargon PR

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Jargon PR

Hello! I’m Alex Smith and work as an account executive at Jargon PR. I’ve worked here since March 2022 so for 8 months and counting. During this time, I’ve learnt a lot and have met some amazing people along the way.

As an account executive, I work within the wider team to manage and executive our clients campaigns. This involves me performing a range of tasks such as writing and pitching articles, arranging interviews, attending client events and meetings, brainstorming fresh ideas for PR campaigns and updating client reports.

What is your favourite thing about PR?

My favourite thing about PR would have to be writing articles and it’s the main reason why I pursued a career in this field. It’s a great feeling knowing that something you’ve written has been published online and read by thousands – it doesn’t get better than that!

What is your advice to anyone looking to develop in their PR career?

The most important piece of advice would be to always be open to try something new and more importantly, do this with a positive mindset. If there’s a task which you haven’t completed before, give it a go! This ensures that you have covered every aspect of PR and shows team members that you have a great working attitude. Embracing feedback is also important and being open to learn from others can really help you grow your career in PR.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My favourite hobby would be football without a doubt. I play for my local team every Sunday and enjoy watching my team Tottenham play (most of the time!). This has been a hobby of mine since I can remember and you can catch me watching or playing football every weekend.

What is your favourite thing about Jargon PR?

This would have to be the social aspect which is nothing like I’ve ever experienced before from my past jobs. It does sound cliche, but the people are really what make working here great. We regularly have team socials, my favourite being the Halloween murder mystery, and I feel very lucky to have made some amazing friends here.

What are your top podcasts/TV shows/movies?

Podcast – I’m not a big listener of podcasts but That Peter Crouch Podcast is definitely my favourite. If you’ve never given it a listen I would definitely try – Crouchy has some great stories and never fails to make me laugh.

TV Show – This one has to be Breaking Bad and anyone who’s seen the series knows how good this show is. I don’t think there has been a better plot in the history of television! I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve watched this and it never fails to disappoint.

Movie – I think Star Wars has to take this one and if I had to choose just one, I’d pick Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. The Disney era of Star Wars has never come close to the George Lucas films and that’s a point most people can agree on. This film is truly a masterpiece and has one of the most iconic scenes in the whole franchise.
