The Jargon PR Podcast – A Placement Year in PR

It’s common practice now for universities to offer a ‘Sandwich course’ in which students career out a year in industry between their second and final years at university. Each year, Jargon PR hires two students at Junior Account Executive level for 12 months during their university placement year.
Jargon PR ensures its placement students build their PR skill throughout the year and offer them a lot of responsibility. The day to day activities of a Junior Account Executive at the agency include supporting the Account Managers by drafting content such as press releases, thought leadership articles, award entries, social media and more, liaising with journalists and maintaining relationships with clients.
Jargon PR has good relationships with local universities and is also a founding member of the PRCA Internships for All scheme which aims to drive more young people to the PR and communications profession at entry-level. Jargon PR was also recently Highly Commended in the PR Week’s Best Places to Work Awards for ‘Best Internship Scheme’.
In this episode, Heather Guare, Events and Marketing student at Bournemouth University, and placement student at Jargon PR in the role of Junior Account Executive, discusses her role at the agency, and the skills she has learned in her placement year so far.
Heather also goes on to talk about the advice she would give to those looking to carry out a placement in PR including making the most of the opportunities provided to you throughout the year.
