Phenodays 2015

Tom Johnson, Account Manager at Jargon PR reports on his time at Phenodays in Munich with LemnaTec

On a slightly drizzly, late October morning, I packed an overnight bag and left London for what turned out to be a similarly overcast Munich to attend Phenodays, a conference hosted by our client LemnaTec.

Arriving at Heathrow, I had one thing on my mind: a wonderful, tasty bacon roll. It turns out that while you could spend a couple of grand on a Chanel handbag at the Harrods concession, it’s nigh on impossible to locate a delicious slab of cooked back bacon and some bread at 6am.

Following the short plane trip, I arrived at the hotel to meet the event staff and prepare my mind for three days of plant phenotyping talks and workshops. What I learnt from all of the intelligent and fascinating speakers would be enough to fill a textbook. The work going on in the world of phenotyping is so exciting, it really could put us on a path to alleviating hunger issues all across the world!

No conference is complete without some great food and drink, and Phenodays did not disappoint. From tasting local beers and networking with scientists to the incredible cuisine, the evening social events were a brilliant chance to meet some of the people changing the world through phenotyping.

Now I’m back, I’ve simply got to flick through my notes, filtering out the best and most interesting stories for the agriculture and sci-tech press, contact the people behind the research, interviewing, drafting case studies and opinion pieces, before securing some awesome coverage for our client. All in a week’s work for Jargon PR.
