Team Jargon PR: Simon Corbett

What is your name and where do you come from?

Simon Corbett. Born in Essex, moved to Milton Keynes as a boy. Graduated from University and moved to Oxford for a role in PR. Since 2008 I have lived in Berkshire.

What is your favourite thing about PR?

I love the variety PR brings. One day we are launching a new tech start-up, the next we’re designing an app, the day after we’re in a new business pitch for a major international brand. The only constant is change.

What has been the lowlight of your working life?

A couple of years ago I was in California for two weeks seeing a number of clients. It was a great trip until the last meeting.

I arrived at a clients offices to be told they’d hired a new US agency and, as a result, were giving them the UK account. The meeting was over in less than three minutes. It was a long flight home.

What has been the highlight of your working life?

There have been a few.

My first role at Weber Group (WeberShandwick) was a huge opportunity and came in the middle of the dot.com boom. The clients and budgets were amazing.

Working at Edelman for over three years was fantastic. I learnt more than I could have ever imagined. The travel, clients and leadership team were incredible.

Winning our first award, ‘CIPR Small Agency of the Year’ for Jargon PR nearly five years ago is also up there! Launching in a recession was a huge gamble but paid off. We are now five years old and have been named as a finalist every year!

What apps do you use and why?

  • Flipboard, to keep up to date with a broad range of news

  • Sleep Cycle, to check how little sleep I have had

  • Sky Sports, for the latest Football and F1 news

  • LinkedIn, unbeatable for contacts and networking

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I have two beautiful daughters, so there’s not much free time for hobbies. Free time is taken up with Peppa Pig and increasingly Barbie.

I am a keen runner and run at least one half marathon a year.

Name one food you can’t resist?

My Wife’s Carbonara is unbeatable!

Tell us your favourite film, TV show and album? And why?

Film – James Bond…who wouldn’t want to be 007?

TV show – Yes Prime Minister…brilliantly written and even funnier today than it was the first time around. Sir Humphrey is my secret hero.

Album – Michael Jackson, Bad, truly the King of Pop.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

To be invisible.
